About the author: Heather Griffin earned a Doctorate of Educational Leadership from the University of North Florida in December 2014. Her dissertation was titled The Importance of Collaboration Between Parents and School in Special Education: Perceptions from the Field. She continues to focus heavily on parent participation in the care and advocacy of their children. In addition, Heather assigns a high priority to mentoring and providing high-quality experiences to up-and-coming behavior analysts.
Heather has a Master of Science degree from The Florida State University Applied Behavior Analysis program. After graduating and receiving her BCBA in 2005 she took a position in a literal and figurative desert in Phoenix Arizona. In 2005, the Four Corners knew only a handful of behavior analysts. Despite phenomenal (non-behavior analytic) mentors beginning a career in a behavior analysis desert was a challenge.
Now, Heather has nearly 20 years of experience in the field and has practiced across a variety of settings including public and private schools, family and group homes, day programs, and other community settings. She has trained many up-and-coming behavior analysts, some of which didn’t even know they wanted to become behavior analysts at the time. Heather has served in leadership positions within the First Coast Association for Behavior Analysis and is an active advocate for the delivery of high-quality ABA services in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. She currently oversees and leads a team of BCBAs, BCaBAs, and RBTs in Jacksonville, Florida and Valdosta, Georgia.
