Getting started in Applied Behavior Analysis?

Behavior analysis is a science-based field focused on improving the lives of those we serve. I’d like to think we are also in it to improve the lives of our colleagues and supervisees. The field continues to grow dramatically as more people experience both the challenge and satisfaction of bringing about meaningful life changes for individuals.

While the field is currently most recognized for the work being done with the Autism community we have large impacts outside of developmental disabilities. I specifically have practiced in developmental disabilities so my perspective is offered through that lens.

Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is the use of techniques and principles to bring about meaningful and positive change in behavior.

These techniques can be effectively used across various settings including structured situations such as a classroom as well as in “everyday” situations such as family dinnertime or the neighborhood grocery store.
